Introducing EnergyThink.ing

Today, I’m launching a new tool I created, EnergyThink.ing, to track energy and environment news across all 50 states.

In the United States, at least half of energy and environment policy is made at the state level. So, my work as an energy analyst requires that I keep a close eye on what states are up to. Every state has its own energy and nature agenda so when you’re following more than one or two state legislatures and administrations, you can quickly lose track of things.

Even though I’ve got thirty years working in and reporting on American politics, staying on top of everything happening is an impossible task. I personally keep watch over fourteen states. I need to know what the local press is writing about energy and environment, what’s happening in legislatures, new programs announced by state agencies, and then there’s emergencies like fires and power outages.

Keeping up with scattered newsletters or querying AI never did the trick. To get it done right I built EnergyThink.ing, a website and daily email report that sorts out the important energy and conservation information from the noise.

EnergyThink.ing follows energy and conservation issues in state legislatures, the governors, administrations, and local, state, regional, and energy trade press. It then breaks everything out by state, puts it into a web dashboard and sends you a daily email – with details broken out by state. All you have to do is sign up, choose your states, keywords you want to follow – and then do your work, knowing that you won’t miss a thing.

I’ve poured decades of political consulting, news reporting, and policy wonkery into making it all accurate and comprehensive. The system follows over 280 news sources around the US, for all fifty states and DC, scouring them for energy and conservation reporting. Then, it ingests another 230 state governor, energy, environmental, and DNR offices, putting their daily actions right into your dashboard and in a daily email for the states you choose.

A small group has been alpha testing EnergyThink.ing for the last month. This week I’m launching beta testing for free. You’re invited. Please check it out and let me know what you think!
